A new club focused on kink culture is due to open in Pankow this September. ROSA promises a sex‑positive programme and a club layout that swaps traditional BDSM tropes for softer colours and a large, tiled playspace.
The project is operated on the site run by Hive, next to DSTRKT, but programming and on‑the‑ground safeguarding are led by Klub Verboten and a team of experienced scene organisers. That team includes founder Karl Verboten and club manager Dragan. Klub Verboten will hold regular nights in residence and offer a mix of plays, socials and curated culture events.
Design choices are deliberate. The main dance area stays in raw concrete. Seating and lighting introduce butter‑toned upholstery and warm latex pendants. Toilets have been expanded. A former cloakroom becomes a multipurpose room for workshops and exhibitions. Entry funnels through heated cargo containers fitted with lockers and changing cabins. An outdoor area is planned for the following year.
ROSA also sets out to test new standards for safety. An expanded awareness team, formal trainings and a certification process are part of the plan. As Karl puts it in blunt terms:
“ultimativ, wir sind als Szene füreinander verantwortlich.”
Dragan frames the stakes simply:
“Das ist a) die Musik, b) die Einrichtung und d) der Faktor Übergriff.”
The club is already stirring debate — from questions about its name to concerns over commercial backers. Organisers say Hive will not program ROSA's events and that the venue should remain operationally independent. For Berlin, ROSA matters because it tries to join sex‑positive nightlife with institutionalised safeguarding, and because it aims to offer a different model of kink clubbing in a city that still shapes global queer nightlife.
